Becoming an Analyst: between Regulation and Formation
10 January 2010
11 am – 5 pm
Bloomsbury Suite
ULU, Malet St.
Free Entrance
A one-day workshop organised by the London Society of the New Lacanian School with the participation of Pierre-Gilles Guéguen, President of the New Lacanian School.
The study day will take stock of the position of Psychoanalysis in the Lacanian Orientation both in local contexts and in relation to the politics of the World Association of Psychoanalysis. Three themes will be addressed:
1) Regulation and local conditions for the practice of psychoanalysis today
2) Politics of the school and the contemporary social bond
3) Becoming an analyst
State-led regulatory policies aggregate all ‘psy’ practices under the aegis of a therapeutic ideal. Psychoanalytic Schools throughout the world have to find ways to preserve the possibility of a lawful practice without for all that subordinating psychoanalysis to the demands of the master discourse. Over the past few years the WAP in its various instances devised a series of strategies to survive contemporary forms of the social bond.
This London-based event will provide an opportunity for information, clarification, debate, questions and discussion on:
– The impasses our civilisations face
– The inventions that were designed to preserve psychoanalysis
– The vicissitudes of these inventions
– Above all, the question of ‘becoming an analyst’
All are welcome.
